A leading company specializing in digital health and technology-enabled care services in the UK engaged iOrbit to develop a solution for the elderly population to help older adults remain in the familiar surroundings of their own home rather than hospitals or care facilities, with the support of family and carers.
- Elderly population monitoring without intrusive care.
- Retaining the privacy of elderly customers.
- Detecting emergency conditions and providing on-demand support.
- Increasing emergency care for the elderly population due to falls.
Existing solutions in the elder care domain were either content-based or used sensor technology only for motion detection. iOrbit’s iThingsHealth solution combined sensor-based technology with smart care and decision logic, and a fall detection pendant to address these challenges.
iThingsHealth is a state-of-the-art Internet of Things (IoT) enabled sensor-based SaaS telecare system that enables people who require care to live safely and independently in their homes, connecting them with carers when needed.
iThingsHealth helps in monitoring daily activities using:
iThingsHealth provides event template-based monitoring using motion sensors and Bluetooth-enabled devices like a fall detection pendant. These event templates can be easily set up by non-technical users like caregivers or family members.
The event template library is based on typical ADL (activities of daily living) and can be customized for individual users. When a setup event occurs, a notification is generated and pushed to the caregiver mobile app. The round-robin notification workflow ensures no alert is left unattended, providing timely care and preventing emergencies.
ADL and event data patterns help in the early detection of health issues in older adults.
Our key tasks included creating an end-to-end solution that involved:
iOrbit’s iThingsHealth solution successfully addressed the elder care challenges, enabling independent and affordable living through smart sensors and an intelligent system.
With its strategically placed sensors, iThingsHealth supported unobtrusive care and on-demand help during emergencies, reducing emergency care due to falls with its reliable fall detection algorithm.
The solution helped our client expand their reach and establish a leadership position in the elder care domain.
